Interview 1

Being the interviewer

When I was the interviewer, I didn't really have any sort of plan, so I asked a lot of questions that skipped around all sorts of topics.  I had a lot of trouble coming up with questions, so next time I will spend more time preparing for that.  I spent a lot of time moving clips around and editing out pauses or stutters, which made me a lot more experienced in actually using FinalCutPro, even though it wasn't super fun at the time.  Finding photos for B-roll was pretty easy, but it didn't look very professional because they were just stock pictures from google images.  I tried my best to hide the cuts from the viewer and make the interview as smooth as possible.

Being interviewed

Being interviewed was fun, I'm not very comfortable in front of a camera, so I was very nervous  to do this part of the interview process.  I talked a lot about my interests and what I do for extracurriculars.  Having a light in my face  I thought would be distracting, but it just made it seem professional and it reminded me not to look at the camera and to be "on" at all times.  I realize after watching the interview that I stopped repeating the question after I was asked it toward the end of my interview, so that probably made it a lot harder for Noah to edit.

Being behind the camera

Being behind the camera was easy, because we had more advanced students with us showing us how to use the equipment.  We learned how to use a road mic and lights, though we only used one light as compared to the two or three that would be used in an actual interview.  We chose to use the Hunter Seminar room to film in, thinking it would be quiet, but there was a fan going in the background the entire time which made the interview sound really horrible.  All I really had to do was turn the camera on and start recording, because we didn't change the angle, the focus, the lights, or the sound the whole time.

Interview 2

Being the interviewer

in this interview I had more of an idea of what I could use I editing, so I asked questions mainly about the same topic tried to get good intros and a good ending.  I was more conscious of having Avery repeat the question, and getting full answers with no railing off at the end.  I tried my best to build on the same subject, I asked her a lot about her work with special needs kids, going off of what she had said in other questions. The location for this interview was a lot nicer than the last, but we didn't have a chair for the interviewer, so I just had to kind of kneel on the ground to be the right height for her to look at.

Being interviewed

Being interviewed, I was a lot more comfortable than last time, I tried my best to explain my answers fully and repeat the question every time.  I tried to be conscious about cars going by in the background, but I don't think I caught all of them.  I think this interview will be a lot better  than the last one, mainly because it was more about one topic and I sent a lot more personal b roll to Stephen for him to use than before.

Being behind the camera

being behind the camera I had a lot more fun with this time, because we actually got to change the settings rather than just have it set up for us by the advanced kids.  The lighting was really great and Stephen was totally in focus for all of the interview.  The sound was off for all of the interviews, the way we set it up was wrong so we had to fix it in editing.  I messed with the setting enough for people to hear in my interview, but I don't know how well the sound worked for Stephen and Avery.
